poetry: rejection

Rejection
by Pieter J. Friedrich

I burned to be
inside your head
To steal your soul
trade you for my own

So I am criminal
you make me feel cruel
I have offended you
with the stench of love

Fading before the blossom
You turned desire to hatred
Tortured silence begat
a mutilated association

Time incalculable
you were on my mind
I yearned for closer
and you felt violated

I still can't shake the dream
you can't shrug me off too soon
Yet pig-headed
I'm still shuffling after you
